Scottish Gut Project

Welcome to Digesting Journeys—our online project space for Glasgow Science Festival’s Science on the Sofa strand as part of their 2025 programme!

While taste and smell are often the primary senses we might think of when it comes to eating, Digesting Journeys also brings sight, touch, and sound into focus. Here we are sharing some materials that can be engaged with at your own time and pace to explore your physical, psychological, and linguistic relationships with your gut

Digesting Journeys asks—what happens when we take the outside world in?

Allow yourself to be taken on a sensory journey through Bee Farrell’s A Zine About TOUCH and How It Relates to Eating which will guide you through a series of prompts and hands-on experiences to explore the relationships between texture and foods.

We welcome you to watch Human Nature a short artist moving image work by Kirsty Hendry which ruminates on the shared tongue of eating and knowing, zooming in on the gut as site of interaction between human and more-than-human worlds.

If you’re still hungry for more, we’ve gathered together the following reading materials;
